FAQ
Who can join Rhythm Hoppers?
Anyone is welcome, as long as you can do a Swingout and a basic Charleston.
We customize the routine so everyone can do at least part of it, while more advanced dancers still get a challenge.
Do I have to perform to join the classes?
No. No one is forced to perform, and there is no obligation to be on stage.
Our job is to make you like the choreography and the team so much that you want to perform. If you’re not ready, no one will put you in an awkward situation.
What kind of choreography will we learn: solo, partner, or both?
Some combos are partnered, others are solo, and all of them together will eventually build the full routine.
Can we request certain moves, styles, or music ideas for the routine?
Yes. We’ll adapt the routine to the team. We want the team to own this routine, so we’ll discuss choices together, including the song choice.
Do I have to perform the whole routine?
No. You can choose to perform only parts of the routine. You won’t be required to do every combo if you don’t want to; the goal is that everyone feels comfortable and happy performing.
If I find a combo difficult, can I get extra help or a simplified version?
Always! Ask your teachers or fellow students for help. Some combos will be targeted at more experienced students, so not everybody will have to perform them.
How many combos are in a full routine?
The number of combos depends on the song we choose. What we call a combo is a half Chorus = 8 x 8 counts. The full routine is built from several of these combos set to one song.
Is the whole routine one song or multiple songs?
Just one song. The “whole routine” means all the combos choreographed to that single track, not an entire show with many songs.
When are the performances?
We’re aiming for at least three performances:
Our Christmas party
AIA Carnival
A video project
Exact dates aren’t confirmed yet, but everything should happen in December. If other performance opportunities come up, we may add them – it feels like a shame to work on a routine for months and only perform it once.
Of course, you don’t have to join all the performances.
How many classes do I need to take to be ready to perform?
To learn the whole routine comfortably, plan to take classes from now until early December. Performances are in December, so the schedule is designed so you can progress without stress, even if you miss one or two classes.
Do I have to attend every class to perform?
No. Rhythm Hoppers is a long‑term commitment, and we know people will miss some sessions. To perform, you should definitely join the sessions in November, but occasional absences are totally fine.
I’ll be away for part of November. Can I still perform?
Yes. As long as you attend the core November sessions and enough classes overall to feel confident with your parts, you can still perform. If you know your dates in advance, just let us know so we can plan around them.
What about costumes?
We’ll decide the costumes together as a team. If we choose to buy costumes, we’ll aim for Tao Bao options to keep costs low.
If cost is a limit for you, RS can purchase the costume and lend it to you for the show.
How long do I need to commit to Rhythm Hoppers?
Think of Rhythm Hoppers as a long‑term team rather than a one‑off workshop. You can join with the intention of dancing across multiple months and performances, with the understanding that you may miss some sessions along the way.
What’s the main goal of the performance team?
For the team to feel comfortable and happy performing, and to create a good memory together with the performance video. It’s about enjoyment, growth, and team experience – not perfection.
