🌿 Swing Picnic Alert! 🌿

Since Friday 1st May is a public holiday, we’re heading outdoors for a relaxed swing picnic 🎶☀️

📍 Location: Cyberport Waterfront Park
Beautiful, breezy, and usually less crowded than the usual parks — plenty of grass, shade, and space to dance, chill, play, and eat together 💃🧺

🗓 Date: Friday, 1st May
🕐 Time: from 1:00pm onwards (feel free to drop in later too — very chill timing!)

🚍 How to get there:

Bus is the easiest option 🚌
Or we can coordinate group taxis 🚖

🍉 Food & drinks:
Bring whatever you like! Homemade food, snacks, drinks — all welcome 💛
If you don’t feel like cooking, there are also shops / supermarkets nearby to grab something on the way.

🌼 What to expect:

Dancing (of course 💃)
Chill time on the grass
Optional games & playful energy
And if you’re feeling active: acroyoga / partner balancing games 🤸‍♀️

🎶 We’ll also be playing some music, some people might be dancing, others just relaxing in the sun — and yes, we all know Sam will probably be reading somewhere in the shade 😌📚

Theme:
Swing and Bal. Ready to get a little bit faster on the social dance floor? Then this is the night for you, as we play some faster tunes on a faster (more slippery) floor.

Free taster class starts at 8:00pm (~45min)
Entry: Just buy one drink (seriously, that’s it. But don’t let that stop you from having more)

No complicated sign-ups, no membership fees, no awkward commitments. Just grab your most comfortable shoes, support the venue with a purchase, and prepare to have way more fun than you expected.

Rooftop Dance Social

Get ready for an unforgettable evening under the stars! Join us at the stunning rooftop of The Hive Lai Chi Kok for a night of rhythm, connection, and vintage vibes. Whether you are a seasoned dancer or have never taken a step in your life, this is the perfect space to unwind and meet new people.

What to Expect:
The night kicks off with a beginner-friendly taster class—no partner or experience required! We’ll get you moving to the beat in no time. Afterward, our live DJ will spin the best swing, jazz, and big band tracks for our social dance party. Grab a drink, enjoy the atmosphere and dance the night away.

What is Swing Dancing?
Swing dancing is a joyful, high-energy partner dance that originated in the 1920s and 30s alongside the jazz era. Social dancing is all about improvisation and community—it’s a relaxed environment where people switch partners, share a dance, and enjoy the music together.

Pop-Up Blues Workshop

We are excited to welcome Michaylo and Nastya to Hong Kong! As the creators of “Bluesogram” and pioneers of the St. Petersburg swing scene, they have been teaching internationally since 2007. Their approach is truly unique: Michaylo is a professional educator who studied under legends like Frankie Manning, while Nastya is a specialist in Dance Movement Therapy and Feldenkrais.

Together, they view Blues as a language of trust and choice. Their philosophy focuses on gentle communication and the “natural human need” for a comfortable embrace. As they say: “We come to dance for happiness. You just need to relax, and everything will come!”

Workshop Curriculum

  • Musicality and Rhythm: Learn to translate the soulful sounds of blues music into fluid, expressive movement.
  • Latin Blues Basics: Introduce syncopated rhythms and simple Latin elements to add texture to your dance.
  • Free Spins and Improvisation: Explore creative ideas for spins and solo expression while maintaining a deep connection with your partner.

Rhythm Studio Presents: A Special Workshop with Sinclair Ang

Sinclair Ang is a world-renowned jazz dance educator, musician, and entertainer. With over two decades of international teaching experience across Europe and the Asia-Pacific, Sinclair brings a wealth of knowledge to the floor. In Singapore, he leads his band, The Rhythmakers, where he reimagines traditional standards and regional tunes specifically for the swing dance community. His dedication to the art form extends beyond the dance floor, as he actively researches and shares both American and Singaporean jazz history. Outside of his musical pursuits, Sinclair is a passionate sourdough baker who firmly believes that, at the end of the day, we should all just “jazz dough it.”

Workshop Details: Style & Communication

In this exclusive three-hour intensive, Sinclair—joined by Aurore—will guide you through his favourite partner dancing techniques. The session is designed to elevate your social dancing by focusing on the nuances of communication and individual style. Whether you are looking to refine your connection or add more flair to your movement, this workshop aims to leave you looking and feeling your best on the dance floor.

As a longtime friend of the Hong Kong swing dance community, we are thrilled to welcome Sinclair back to our city. His workshops are always a highlight of our calendar, offering a unique blend of technical expertise and musicality.
